March and the rag doll challenge
With all the creative things that I could have chosen to do during march making a rag doll toy for each day seemed to be a doable thing in my head, the reality was different, luckily I was able to get each bear cut and put into a bag to be able to do this challenge, I honestly didn’t know what I was going to make each day, and as the month progressed, and the more practice I put into each rag toy, I noticed that they got better each time. I may be doing the challenge to see how I can better my work, but I and finding that I am tightening up my others skills in areas, by doing random practices in things. I have found that doing these toys are in fact small practices of hemming and seems, and that will be a transferable skill to when I make more of my own clothes, which is the aim for next year to own a whole wardrobe of clothes that have been completely altered or turned into a fresh garment, I want to lessen my impact and have items that are unique and well tailored to me as well as having clothes not made with man made fibres as much as possible, but that is a different project, but it will most likely appear in and out of my work processes, as I am always looking at items in my house that break and see what it’s second purpose is, and reform that, I feel with how consumeristic people now are, I wish to become more individualistic by using the make do and ment attitude I feel that we all will eventually will have to adopt.
[While I say that I am hyper aware that I myself am selling you things, and although I do not push for it, here is your reminder that any art you see, or want please by all means reach out to me, and the redbubble.com shop with my prints on, is always open.]
So doing these rag dolls was a massive task and I, didn’t think this was a big deal until I got 10 days in, and noticed that my hands were taking a hit, but I pushed through it and gained a lovely calluses on my fingers. I had at one point no idea of what I was making due to the mystery bag missing parts that I forgot to put in, that was easily corrected once I worked out what I was making.
Other than that I did enjoy doing the rag dolls, some came out really well others not so much.
